Is Taunton Game Meats a deer processor?
Taunton Game Meats is a referral line for hunters in the city and in Raynham, Berkley, Dighton, Freetown, Assonet, and Somerset. This line connects you with a trusted processing shop in the region. It does not take a deer at a published street. You call, name the town, and intake connects that call. The processor sets the price and decides whether the deer can be accepted.
Who sets the price for deer processing?
The processor sets the price. This site does not list a rate or a package. Ask on the call what a trusted processing shop in the region charges for the work you want, and ask again if the plan changes. A qualifying whole-deer donation through Hunters Share the Harvest is different: the hunter pays no processing fee when the program rules are met. Kept meat is ordinary work.
Do you publish a street address or drop-off schedule?
No street is published, and no drop-off schedule is listed, because the drop-off is at a trusted processing shop in the region and is confirmed on the call. Do not arrive with a deer until that conversation has happened. The five-vehicle dirt lot off Prospect Hill Street is Hockomock Swamp WMA parking, not a processor entrance. Erwin S. Wilder WMA is hunting land, not a receiving door.
What is different during shotgun week one?
From Monday, November 30 through Saturday, December 5, 2026, every deer must go to an in-person check station before a processor should see it. This site does not list station streets. Use the official check-station map, then call. Week two, Monday December 7 through Saturday December 12, is when online reporting resumes. Sunday hunting is prohibited, so December 6 is closed.
How do I report a deer taken near Taunton?
Report within 48 hours through MassFishHunt or a check station. Write the confirmation number on the harvest tag. Until that report is finished, the deer stays intact except for field dressing. The 2026 transport-visibility rule was removed, so tagging and reporting are the steps to finish. A deer from the Taunton River, Route 24, or Route 138 uses that same report.
Can I donate venison through this referral line?
Hunters must use the official Hunters Share the Harvest map. This site does not claim a trusted processing shop in the region is on that map. A whole donation is field dressed within four hours unless the air stays under 37°F, dropped off whole within 24 hours, and legally reported and tagged. The hunter pays no processing fee. The replacement antlerless permit for zones including 11 usually takes two to four weeks.
Are partial venison donations accepted?
Some processors decline partial donations. Do not assume a hindquarter or a trimmed package qualifies as a Hunters Share the Harvest gift. Ask the program and the processor you choose from the official map. If you are keeping part of a Taunton or Raynham deer, that portion is ordinary processing, and the processor sets the price for that work.
Which days are closed, and what about the winter season?
Sunday hunting is prohibited, so Sundays inside archery, shotgun, and the primitive season are closed. Archery is October 5 through November 28. Shotgun is November 30 through December 12. Primitive firearms run December 14 through December 31. Zones 9, 10, and 11 also have a winter season from January 1 through January 30, 2027, which needs a 2027 license on sale December 1, 2026.
Can I bring quarters, sausage plans, or another species?
Quartered acceptance, cut sheets, sausage, jerky, skin-only work, caping, and other species are not confirmed for a trusted processing shop in the region. Taxidermy is a separate business. Ask on the call. Until you have reported the deer, it also has to stay intact except for field dressing, so quartering a buck from Wilder or the swamp first is the wrong order. The processor sets the price for work that is accepted.
What carcass and scent rules matter around Taunton?
Chronic wasting disease has not been found in Massachusetts. Wear gloves and avoid brain, spinal, and lymph tissue while field dressing. Deer-derived scents are banned. Un-deboned deer-family carcasses from outside New England are barred. The center of Taunton is in Wildlife Management Zone 11, and the same reporting clock, 48 hours, applies along the river, Route 140, and the swamp.
