Dropping Off a Deer Near Taunton: What to Bring and When

This line connects you with a trusted processing shop in the region after the deer is legal to move. The processor sets the price. Bring the harvest tag and the confirmation number. This page does not list a street or a drop-off schedule.

Week one of shotgun season still needs an in-person check station before Jane can usefully transfer you.

Where a Taunton Game Meats call ends

Start at (774) 961-6898. Telnyx moves that Taunton, Berkley, Dighton, Assonet, or Somerset call to the hub (508) 738-3388. Jane answers there, takes your details, and connects you directly with a trusted processor in the area. Nothing on this site is a Taunton street address for the shop.

Jane does
Answers, takes details, then cold-transfers. She is not the cutter.
The processor does

What to have ready before Taunton hunters call

  1. The harvest tag on the carcass, with the confirmation number written on it.
  2. A finished report, unless you are asking Jane how the report and the transfer fit together.
  3. Say Taunton, Raynham, Berkley, Dighton, Freetown, Assonet, or Somerset.
  4. Whether you are keeping the meat or asking about Hunters Share the Harvest. The current MassWildlife processor list names the donation processors. Reopen the official processor page before you treat that line as permanent.
  5. Questions still unconfirmed until the processor says yes: cut sheet, sausage, jerky, skin-only, quarters, caping, other species, capacity, and the time of day.

The button on this page calls (774) 961-6898. Jane cold-transfers from the hub. If the processor accepts the deer, you get the drop-off details on that call.

Call, then move the deer

Taunton Game Meats does not publish a dock, a street, or a clock time for leaving a carcass. The drop-off is at a trusted processing shop in the region, and it is confirmed when this line connects you. The processor sets the price and decides whether that deer can be accepted. Hunters from Raynham, Berkley, Dighton, Freetown, Assonet, and Somerset use the same sequence as hunters who shot inside the city.

Have the harvest tag on the deer and the confirmation number written on that tag. Know the town, whether you were in Wildlife Management Zone 11, and whether the animal was field dressed only. The center of Taunton is in Zone 11 on the state zone map. A deer from the Taunton River, Route 138 in Dighton, or Route 24 toward Assonet still needs its own report. Do not guess that a neighboring ridge is the same zone without looking at the map.

What "when" means in 2026

Archery runs October 5 through November 28. The youth deer hunt is October 2 and October 3, just before that opener. The paraplegic hunt is October 29 through October 31. Shotgun season is November 30 through December 12. Primitive firearms run December 14 through December 31. Sunday hunting is prohibited, so Sundays inside a season are closed, including December 6 between the two shotgun weeks.

Week one of shotgun, Monday November 30 through Saturday December 5, requires an in-person check station for every deer. This page does not invent station streets. Use the official check-station map, complete that stop, and only then call about a trusted processing shop in the region. Week two, Monday December 7 through Saturday December 12, is when online reporting resumes. A processor conversation does not replace the report.

The carcass that can travel

Until the deer is reported, it stays intact except for field dressing. Quartering in the five-vehicle dirt lot off Prospect Hill Street, or at the truck after a drag from Erwin S. Wilder WMA, is not the way to get ahead of the line. Hockomock Swamp WMA and Wilder sit on the Raynham side of the usual Taunton drive. Skin-only work, quartered acceptance, sausage, jerky, caping, and other species are not confirmed. Taxidermy is a separate business. Ask those questions on the call. The deer processing referral is the longer note on what this line will not pretend to promise.

Report within 48 hours through MassFishHunt or a check station, and write the confirmation number on the harvest tag. The 2026 transport-visibility rule was removed. Deer-derived scents are banned. Un-deboned deer-family carcasses from outside New England are barred. Chronic wasting disease has not been found in Massachusetts. Wear gloves and avoid brain, spinal, and lymph tissue while you field dress.

If the air is warm, especially in October along the Taunton River or in the swamp, cool the carcass as soon as it is field dressed. Hunters Share the Harvest uses a four-hour field-dressing standard unless the air stays under 37°F, and a whole donation has to be dropped off within 24 hours. Those clocks belong to the donation program. Hunters must use the official program map. This site does not claim a trusted processing shop in the region is on that map. Meat you are keeping still needs a call, because the processor sets the price and the acceptance.

Capacity is not confirmed. A Saturday when Route 140, Route 24, and Prospect Hill Street are all busy does not guarantee a place for one more deer. Call before you leave Berkley, Somerset, or Freetown. If a trusted processing shop in the region cannot take the deer, you still have the tag, the confirmation number, and the time to choose another legal next step.
