A Whole-Deer Donation and the Zone 11 Replacement Permit

Hunters who want a replacement antlerless permit start from the rules on the venison donation page and a whole deer, not from a price list. This line connects you with a trusted processing shop in the region for meat you keep, and the processor sets the price. A donation follows Hunters Share the Harvest. Hunters must use the official program map.

Where a Taunton Game Meats call ends

Start at (774) 961-6898. Telnyx moves that Taunton, Berkley, Dighton, Assonet, or Somerset call to the hub (508) 738-3388. Jane answers there, takes your details, and connects you directly with a trusted processor in the area. Nothing on this site is a Taunton street address for the shop.

What the whole-deer gift actually is

A qualifying whole donation through Hunters Share the Harvest means the hunter pays no processing fee. That waiver is a program rule, not a rate card from Taunton Game Meats, and it applies to the whole deer that meets the program's conditions. It is not a coupon for sausage, jerky, or a custom cut sheet. Those products are not confirmed on this referral even for meat you keep. The processor sets the price when the deer is staying with you. The donation path is the path where the fee for processing that gifted deer is not charged to the hunter.

The center of Taunton is in Wildlife Management Zone 11, and the replacement antlerless permit that can follow a whole donation covers zones including Zone 11. Hunters from Raynham, Berkley, Dighton, Freetown, Assonet, and Somerset should read the zone on their own hunt before they count on where that permit can be used. Route 24, Route 138, and Route 140 do not move the zone line. The state zone map does. A deer from the Taunton River flats and a deer from Hockomock Swamp WMA can both be Zone 11 animals, and the permit is still zone-specific when it comes back.

The clocks on the carcass

Field dress within four hours unless the air stays under 37°F. Bring the deer in whole within 24 hours. The deer has to be legally reported and tagged. Report within 48 hours through MassFishHunt or a check station, and write the confirmation number on the harvest tag. Until that report is finished, the deer stays intact except for field dressing. A donation plan that starts with quarters in the five-vehicle dirt lot off Prospect Hill Street has already left the program's whole-deer lane, and quartered acceptance is not confirmed for ordinary processing either.

October warmth along the river makes the four-hour mark the realistic one, because the air will not stay under 37°F on a mild afternoon in Erwin S. Wilder WMA or in the swamp. December shotgun mornings are more likely to be cold, and the 24-hour whole drop-off and the tag still apply on a cold day. The 2026 transport-visibility rule was removed. You still show up with a tagged, reported deer. Deer-derived scents are banned. Un-deboned deer-family carcasses from outside New England are barred, so the donated animal needs to be a legal New England deer. Chronic wasting disease has not been found in Massachusetts. Wear gloves and avoid brain, spinal, and lymph tissue while you field dress.

The replacement permit and Thanksgiving

The replacement antlerless permit usually takes two to four weeks. When the whole deer is donated before Thanksgiving, the program tries to issue the permit before shotgun season. Shotgun in 2026 opens Monday, November 30 and runs through December 12. Archery, October 5 through November 28, is the long open window in which a donation can still be a before-Thanksgiving donation. The youth deer hunt on October 2 and October 3 and the paraplegic hunt on October 29 through October 31 sit in that same early part of the fall.

After Thanksgiving, the replacement permit is for the next year. Shotgun week one, November 30 through December 5, falls after Thanksgiving, and it still requires an in-person check station for every deer. That station stop is not skipped because you intend to donate. Use the official check-station map. This site does not list station streets. Week two, December 7 through December 12, is when online reporting resumes. Sunday hunting is prohibited, including December 6 between the weeks. Primitive firearms run December 14 through December 31. A donation in those late weeks can still feed people, and the replacement permit attached to it is for the following year, not for the shotgun days already underway.

The official map, partial deer, and this referral

Hunters must use the official Hunters Share the Harvest map to choose a donation processor. This referral does not place a trusted processing shop in the region on that map, and it does not tell you to skip the map because you already know the phone line. Some processors decline partial donations. A hindquarter, a boned bag, or a deer you split at camp is something you must ask about, and the answer may be no. If part of the deer is coming home, that part is ordinary processing. The processor sets the price for it. Caping is not confirmed, and taxidermy is a separate business, so a mount is not a donation side task.

This line connects you with a trusted processing shop in the region when you are keeping the meat. Capacity is not confirmed, and no drop-off schedule or street is published. Berkley and Dighton hunters along the river, Freetown and Assonet hunters on Route 24, and Somerset hunters on Route 138 all use that same call if the deer is for the house. If the deer is a whole gift, they use the official map and the four-hour, 24-hour, tagged-and-reported rules instead of assuming the referral line is the donation desk.

Zones 9, 10, and 11 have a winter deer season from January 1 through January 30, 2027. That season needs a 2027 license, which goes on sale December 1, 2026. A replacement permit issued after Thanksgiving is aimed at the next year, which is the permit conversation to have if your donation falls in shotgun or the primitive season rather than in October archery. Either way, the meat program and the permit program only start when the deer meets the whole-donation rules. Call the referral line when the deer is one you are keeping, let the processor set the price, and keep the official map in the plan when the deer is a gift.
