Donating Venison Near Taunton: Hunters Share the Harvest

A whole-deer donation follows Hunters Share the Harvest, not a price list. Hunters must use the official program map. On a qualifying whole donation the hunter pays no processing fee. This line connects you with a trusted processing shop in the region for meat you keep, and the processor sets the price.

Where a Taunton Game Meats call ends

Start at (774) 961-6898. Telnyx moves that Taunton, Berkley, Dighton, Assonet, or Somerset call to the hub (508) 738-3388. Jane answers there, takes your details, and connects you directly with a trusted processor in the area. Nothing on this site is a Taunton street address for the shop.

Donation is a program, not a guess

Taunton Game Meats will not tell you that a trusted processing shop in the region appears on the Hunters Share the Harvest map. Hunters must use the official map and choose a donation processor from that map. This line connects you with a trusted processing shop in the region for deer you are keeping. The processor sets the price for that kept meat. A whole donation is a separate decision, with program rules that this page repeats so a Zone 11 hunter does not have to reconstruct them in the truck.

The center of Taunton is in Wildlife Management Zone 11. Callers from Raynham, Berkley, Dighton, Freetown, Assonet, and Somerset are often in that zone at home, and the permit that comes back from a whole donation is zone-specific. Route 24, Route 138, Route 140, the Taunton River, Hockomock Swamp WMA, and Erwin S. Wilder WMA are the places those hunters name. The five-vehicle dirt lot off Prospect Hill Street is swamp parking, not a donation desk.

What a whole donation requires

Field dress within four hours unless the air stays under 37°F. Bring the deer in whole within 24 hours. The deer must be legally reported and tagged. Report within 48 hours through MassFishHunt or a check station, and write the confirmation number on the harvest tag. Until the report is done, the deer stays intact except for field dressing. A warm October day on the Taunton River makes the four-hour clock the one to watch. A cold morning does not erase the 24-hour whole drop-off or the tag.

On a qualifying whole donation, the hunter pays no processing fee. That is the program rule, not a rate published by this referral line. The hunter can receive a replacement antlerless permit for zones including Zone 11. The permit usually takes two to four weeks. When the whole deer is donated before Thanksgiving, the program tries to issue the replacement before shotgun season. After Thanksgiving, the replacement is for the next year.

Shotgun season in 2026 opens Monday, November 30 and runs through December 12. Week one, through Saturday December 5, still requires an in-person check station for every deer. Week two starts Monday, December 7, and online reporting resumes. Sunday hunting is prohibited. Archery, October 5 through November 28, is when a donation can still fall before Thanksgiving. Primitive firearms run December 14 through December 31.

Partial deer, kept meat, and the map

Some processors decline partial donations. Do not assume a hindquarter or a deer you already cut for the freezer will be accepted. Ask the processor you select from the official map. If you are keeping part of the deer, that portion is ordinary processing, and the processor sets the price. Quartered acceptance, sausage, jerky, skin-only work, caping, and other species are not confirmed. Taxidermy is a separate business.

Deer-derived scents are banned. Un-deboned deer-family carcasses from outside New England are barred, so a donation plan starts with a deer that is legal to possess in Massachusetts. Chronic wasting disease has not been found in Massachusetts. Wear gloves and avoid brain, spinal, and lymph tissue while field dressing at Wilder, in the swamp, or along the river. The 2026 transport-visibility rule was removed. Tag, report, and the confirmation number remain.

Hunters who are keeping the meat should follow the drop-off steps and call before they travel. This site does not list a drop-off schedule or a street. Capacity is not confirmed. A replacement permit issued after Thanksgiving is for the next year, which matters if you donate late in shotgun or during the primitive season. Zones 9, 10, and 11 have a winter deer season from January 1 through January 30, 2027, and that season needs a 2027 license on sale December 1, 2026.
